Thrive International was founded in Spokane in 2021 with a bold vision: to create thriving multicultural communities where every person has the opportunity to belong, contribute, and succeed.

Months after our founding, the war in Ukraine sparked one of the largest displacement crises in recent history. Our community responded. Thrive mobilized quickly to welcome refugee families with housing, support services, and pathways toward stability. What began as an emergency response grew into something larger: Washington State's largest provider of transitional housing for refugees and immigrants, with Thrive Centers in Spokane and Tacoma serving families from more than 21 countries.

We know this work from the inside. More than half of our staff are former migrants themselves: people who have navigated displacement, rebuilt their lives, and now walk alongside families doing the same. That lived experience shapes everything we do, from multilingual case support to programs designed around the real barriers newcomers face in housing, employment, education, and community connection.

Displacement doesn't only cross oceans. When wildfires forced tens of thousands of our Spokane neighbors from their homes in 2026, Thrive opened its doors to evacuees, because responding to displacement with local action is what we were built for. That season confirmed what we already knew: whether a family has fled a war overseas or a fire across town, they need the same things. Welcome. Stability. A path forward.

That's what Thrive provides every day for the newcomers who call Spokane and Tacoma home. Because when people thrive, communities thrive.

Housing, Women and Youth Programs

  • Affordable Transitional Housing

    Thrive provides affordable transitional housing for refugee, immigrant, and asylum-seeking families at Thrive Center Spokane and Thrive Center Tacoma, as well as emergency housing for neighbors displaced by the 2026 wildfires.

  • Women Empowerment Program

    From driving school and financial literacy to community gatherings and creative workshops, our women's programs build the skills, confidence, and friendships that help refugee and immigrant women lead their families and communities.

  • Youth Empowerment Program

    We provide empowerment programs for refugee and immigrant youth. Programs include swimming, sports, soccer camp, fun nights, homework club, and activities.

  • Although many refugees still await work authorization, many have received theirs and are ready to work legally in the United States. If you are an employer with a work opportunity, please text or call 509.553.5606 to discuss specifics. We also have a centralized location at the front desk where residents can see the latest job opportunities, so any promotional literature is helpful.

  • We are here to empower refugee and immigrant communities in Spokane and Tacoma. Having recently left their home countries, these multicultural groups are often doing everything they can to simply survive, but our mission is to move refugees from surviving to THRIVING. Through education, training, and creating spaces for refugees and citizens to get to know each other, Thrive is helping cultivate a more vibrant community by embracing our diversity.
