“Hope to those starting a new chapter”
Al-Tayeb’s father was a dreamer who believed that America was a place where anything was possible. Growing up nourished by that belief, Al-Tayeb dedicated his life to helping others, serving as a firefighter in Iraq. One tragic day, he watched helplessly as a hospital burned with people still inside, its top floors unreachable with the limited equipment available. That moment stayed with him, fueling his desire to build safer, stronger communities.
When his wife won the U.S. immigration lottery, Al-Tayeb saw it as an opportunity to live the life his father always dreamed of. Upon arriving in America, he was struck by how safe life felt, thanks to the systems, laws, and first responders that work together to protect people every day. He dreams of taking that knowledge back to Iraq, so that others can experience the same peace of mind.
Still, starting over has its challenges. The language barrier is one of his greatest hurdles, but Al-Tayeb refuses to let it hold him back. With Thrive’s support, he enrolled in English classes and found a welcoming community that keeps him connected to his roots while he builds a new life.
"At Thrive Center International, I found a place that inspires success and gives hope to those starting a new chapter.,” Al-Tayeb says. “I strive to leave a positive mark that honors my name and my country wherever I go.”
Families like Al-Tayeb’s come to the U.S. in pursuit of a dream. The generosity of our donors helps make those dreams possible. Thank you.
