Emergency Housing for Families Displaced by the Spokane Fires

Thrive Center is a 153-room facility in downtown Spokane. For the past four years, it has housed families arriving from crisis. Right now, that crisis is here.

You do not need to be a refugee or an immigrant. You do not need a referral. You do not need to prove income. If the fires took your housing, you're eligible.

Rooms include a private bath and access to shared common spaces, laundry, and on-site staff.

These rates cover the costs of keeping the building open: staffing, utilities, cleaning, and linens.

Thrive is a nonprofit. This is not a fundraiser.

No. This is open to anyone in Spokane County who lost their housing to the fires or who can't return home because of them.
Thrive was built to house people arriving from crisis. Right now that includes our neighbors. There is no status requirement, no referral requirement, and no income test.
You still get a room.
Say so on the form, or tell us when we call. Our staff will work with you to connect you to emergency financial assistance, disaster relief funds, and other resources.
No one displaced by the fires will be turned away from Thrive Center because of their ability to pay. We'd rather get you housed and sort out the money afterward.
We'll get you the paperwork.
Many renters and homeowners policies include Additional Living Expenses (ALE) coverage, which reimburses temporary lodging after a covered loss. FEMA assistance may apply as well.
We provide itemized receipts and written documentation of your stay — dates, nightly rate, household size — in whatever format your adjuster needs. Ask our staff and we'll put it together.
Most people don't right now. That's fine — we don't need you to know.
Say "I'm not sure" on the form. We'll get you in and figure out the rest as things become clearer. If it turns out you'll be here a while, talk to our staff: we're working on a reduced monthly rate for longer stays and will apply it as soon as it's set.
We'll do our best to call within 72 hours of your form coming in, at the number you gave us. It may come from a number you don't recognize — please pick up.
Tell us the type and number. Most small animals are fine; we will handle larger ones on a case-by-case basis.
Each room has a private bath, linens, and access to shared common areas, laundry, refrigerator, hotplate and microwave. Utilities are included (electricity, water, WIFI, and parking).
Bring a photo ID if you still have it. If it burned, come anyway; we'll work around it. Beyond that, bring what you have.

Thrive Center is home to refugee and immigrant families who came to Spokane after losing their own homes — to war, to persecution, to disaster. Many of them have lived through some version of what our neighbors are living through this week.
No current resident is going without housing to make room for others.
Thrive International was founded in Spokane in 2021 on a simple idea: that a community can meet displacement with a local response. We built that response for people arriving here from somewhere else.
This time the people who need housing are our own neighbors, and we have rooms. The work is the same work.
